Using the tilde in Google search is a useful tool to find words that are closely related to your keyword. The best thing about using the tilde in Google is that is highlights words that Google recognise as being a synonym to your keyword.

What is the tilde?

The tilde is the little squiggly line button on your keyboard. It can be found by using the shift hash and most qwerty keyboards.  Using the tilde in google has made it one of the most powerful keys on my keyboard.

How to use the tilde

Using the tilde is easy. If you are looking for other words to use to help support the keyword hotel just type in ~hotel. The search results will show some words in the results that are in bold. Those are the words that are considered to be closely related. You can use this search function if you are looking for words to support a key phrase. So looking for additional words that you can use to support hotels in Wales use ~hotels ~wales.

You will get different results using this tool in different country specific versions of Google. This is useful if you want to know what words people in other countries use for your term.
