Using discount vouchers for online marketing

As the recession really starts to hit consumers in the UK, the use of discount vouchers is soaring. The recent press release by Hitwise showing a 47.5% increase in the search terms including discount vouchers over the last 12 months shows how valuable this is to UK on line commerce.

Take a look at the trends in Google Insight for Search and you will see the the UK leads the world when searches for discount codes or discount vouchers are used.  In the UK during August 2009 the term ‘discount vouchers’ was searched for almost 250,000 times alone. Add to that the other varieties of the term and you can see how important it is to get in on this market.

The video above is a very quick examination of the search term and will help you to research the impacts on your own markets and SEO activities. The biggest growth when you go through the categories is in the travel market but that is now reducing as the holiday or vacation season comes to an end.

When to market your discount coupons or codes

Google Insights shows seasonal trends in searches for coupons and vouchers. The biggest is in the approaches to Christmas and this starts in mid to early November before dropping off substantially mid December. You need to get your vouchers on line about 4 weeks before this to allow the search engines to crawl and index your vouchers.

The use of discount vouchers or money off coupons can make a big difference to your sale conversions, click through rates and overall profitability of your web site. For some reason this marketing techniques is pretty unique to the UK market with it being at least 5 times bigger than the rest of the world combined.

It could be saying something about just how tight money is in the UK for the average person when compared to the economies of the rest of the world.  But that’s politics and more relevant to one of my other blogs.

If you’re involved in the UK market then this is a marketing technique you need to be using.
